The old lock in Lilla Edet

The first lock in Lilla Edet was built in the early 17th century. Most likely it was ready for use in 1607.
This lock was improved several times during the 17th century and finally between 1782 and 1784.
This lock is still to be seen, but it has no connection to the river.
This lock, as well as the very first lock here, was built on the eastern, Swedish, side of the river. The new locks built between 1826 to 1832 were built on the western side of the river, as is the modern lock.
