Gustaf Adolf's lock at Åkerström
About 1,5 kilometer south of the falls in Trollhättan is Åkerström. Here used to be a strem that stopped ships on Göta Älv. When the lock at Lilla Edet was built the ships heading upstreams came to Åkerström and here was a large place for reloading.
In 1778 a lock was built here, Gustaf Adolf's lock, and from then on the ships could sail all the way to the falls in Trollhättan.
The lock was built 54 meter long, 10 meter wide and 2,5 meter deep.
