This is the natural outlet of Lillfjärden through the centre of Hudiksvall. It is 500 meters long.
In early times the Hudiksvall harbour was situated in Lillfjärden, but land elevation finally made it impossible for the ships to pass through the canal. In 1615 the harbour for ships moved to the sea-side of Hudiksvall to the place where it still is.
The fishermen continued to use the old harbour and they built boathouses along the canal where they landed and sold their catch. Most of todays boathouses were built in the old style during the 19th century. Today they are still used for shops and storage, and are a trademark for Hudiksvall.
