History:
The owner of the Melderstein ironworks built locks at Råne village and Prästholm during the 1790ies to simplify the transsports to and from the works. There are no known rests of these locks.
The Melderstein ironsworks were founded by Jonas Melderstein and Abraham Steinholtz soon after 1740. Steinholtz was owner of Kengis ironworks at this time. During the years the work expanded and many things were produced there. Such as horseshoes, plows, spades, axes and chains. A saw was built here too and a gun factory among other things.
The works expanded rapidly, but was seldom profitable. After some years Medlercreutz was sole owner and he led the growing business until he died in 1785.
In 1786 the company was bought by Jean Bedoire who run the business until 1799 when he sold it to Samuel Gustaf Hermelin who soon went bancrupt.
At that time king Carl XIV Johan bought the business and run it for many years. In the 1860ies it was sold to a private company, but the business was stopped in 1892.
After that the mansion has been used as school, kindergatren, hotel and for konferences.
