Mölndal creek
Mölndalsån
Parts of the water from Mölndalsån still flows through Fattighusån, the artificially built outflow. The rest of Mölndalsån still flows through the natural furrow to Göta Älv. This last part is called Gullbergsån, and only small parts of it can be seen as most of it is hidden in several culverts with roads, motorways and railroads above.
It is still possible to go by bost up Fattighusån and Mölndalsån, but only if you can get help to come trhough the lock at Drottningtorget in Gothenburg. Which is possible. That is an extraordinary experience mostly under green trees. You can hardly believe that you are in the midst of a busy city with overloaded raods on both sides.
Once upon a time timber was floated on Möndalsån. This timber came from the lakes upstreams in Landvetter and Råda. But it had to go on land beside the Mölndal falls. Drawn by horses or strong men. And from the Mölndal center it could be floated to Göra Älv. Later the traffic with barges has been has been intense from when factories grew and needed transport of goods to and from. Today it is hard to believe that Mölndalsån had a bunch of barge towers. As did famous Volga.

Mölndalsbro - Mölndalbridge - is the local name for the Mölndal town center located by the foot of the Mölndal falls. Right here the Mölndal creek makes a 90 degree turn towards west and gets - from the east - the water from the creeks Kålleredsbäcken and Ävaån. From here on Mölndalsån has a calm journey to Göta Älv and the sea.
No doubt about that the name Mölndalsbro for the town center comes from the fact that here has been a bridge across Mölndalså for ages is a safe guess. there is a bridge today too, but this one spans over streets, motorways and railroad tracks. today. Mölndalsån flows through a culvert here and is not to be seen.
