Östra Hamnkanalen

All "proper" harbour activity left the Gothenburg center many years ago. But around Lilla Bommen there it is still febrile activity around the year. Here is a fequently used guest harbour, popular for pleasureboat owners from far and near.
This harbour is also the startpoint for Älvsnabben, the trams offshot on Göta River. This waterborne tram is used by many on their way to and from work and pleasure. It stops on both sides of the river.
Today trams and busses occupy Östra Hamngatan. But until 1936 this was a canal, Östra Hamnkanalen. Across this short canal there was six bridges, one for every street.
The southern part of Östra Hamnkanalen, between Brunnsparken and Kungsportsplatsen, was filled in 1900. There were four bridges.
