Tåtorp

This lock regulates the waterlevel on the section to Hajstorp and the lock's elevation varyies depending on the level of lake Viken. Normal elevation is 0,2 meter.
This is the only manually operated lock on the western section of Göta canal.
There was no bridge across the canal here until 1953 when todays bridge of Dutch type was built. Earlier there was a tiny ferry here, but it was withdrawn in 1933. After that the only chance to get over here was to walk on the lock gates. Until the army helped the canal company and built this new bridge.
The semaphor seen in some of the pictures was moved here in the 1940ies. Earlier it was placed at Lanthöjden and regulated traffic at the canal's most narrow stretch.
