Mem

The lock at Mem was built as one of the very last on the canal in 1832, the same year the canal was inaugurated. The lock has an elevation of 3,0 meter, somewhat varying depending on the level of the Baltic Sea. The historic name of the lock is Bengt Erland Franc Sparre.

Sightseeingbåtar vid kajen i Mem

Vägbanken vid sidan om Mems gästhamn rasade samman i början av november 2000.

Den gamla rasade kajen har 2002 ersatts av en stenslänt.

Sightseeingboats at the quay in Mem

The road embankment by the Mem guestharbour slided in November 2000.

The old slided quay was in 2002 replaced by an enforced slope.
The big red building was built of old timber from the building of the canal. It was inside this warehouse king Karl XIV Johan inaugurated the canal on September 26 1832.
1995 to 1996 the warehouse was renovated and is now used as a youth hostel.
