Øyeren

Øyeren is one of the biggest lakes in Norway, 72,5 square kilometers. It's located straigth east of Oslo and collects water from the rivers Nitelva, Leira and Glomma. The outflow is via Glomma to Singlefjorden nia Sarpsborga and Fredrikstad.
Timber floating on the lake is mentioned as early as 1306 and was used until 1985.
In 1885 the steamer Strömmen started scheduled traffic on the lake, and this continued until 1927. The steamer went to Lilleström, Årnestangen, Flateby and Sandstangen

There has been plans proposed for a canal between Lilleström at Øyeren and Oslo at Oslofjorden.
