Toppilansalmi canal
Toppilansalmi kanava
This canal is located in Oulo by the Bay of Bothnia. It was created in 1724 when Ule River flooded and broke a new way to the sea. Toppilansalmi was made Oulo's new harbour.
Later stone quays were built all along and the canal was dredged several times. But soon the harbour was too small and Oulo built a new harbour. Toppilansalmi was made a harbour for pleasure boats.
The harbour canal is about 1,5 kilometer long and between 50 and 100 meter wide.
