Tuustaipale canal
Tuustaipaleen kanava

A 200 meter long canal in Mäntyharju municipality in Southern Savolax. It connects lake Lahnavesi to lake Tuusjärvi. The first canal here was built in the 1770ies and was enlarged in the 1830ies. At that timed a new furrow for Tuuskoski falls was created too. and there is still an old mill. The canal is about 20 meter wide.
The stream in the canal is strong as the difference in water level between the two lakes is 1,1 meter.
From the beginning the canal was probably used by rowboats but later it became a part of the Mäntyharju floating route. Kaivannonkoski is another name for this canal.
The marked fairway stops downstream the canal as it is not possible to pass the canal with pleasureboats.
