Between Tobaksrullen and Bargrund is a 400 meter long canal connecting Gropen with Högskärssjön. This is an old sound that since ages has been used for transport by the local people. As late as in the 1970:ies it was possible to pass through at high water, but in the end landrizing made all passages impossible.
During the winter 1981 the canal was dredged and the traffic immediately increased immensely.
At that time there were not so many summerhouses in the area, but from the end of the 1980:ies many new summerhouses has been built here, which has increased traffic in the canal even more.
The other canal is about 350 meters long and cuts through Algrundet. It was built in 1972 to increase water circulation to Lake Alskog and by that hopefully increase fishing.
