Bredsund kanava

Käringsund canal
Käringsund kanal

The local people call it "The canal". It connects Nabbfjärden in the north with Käringsund fishing village in the south.
The canal is in the northern part of Käringsund from the touristcenter Käringsundsbyn and 500 meters northwards. In the southern part, about 200 meters the canal is dug through sand and the rest is blasted through solid rock.
The width is about 4 meters and the depth about 1,7 meter. There is a roadbridge across with a free height about 2 meters.
The first canal here was built in the 1880:ies. It was more narrow and shallow then the new canal that was built in the 1980:ies.
