Kallio canal
Kallion kanava
In Ilomantsi municipality in North Karelia you will find this canal.
It is about 800 meter long and it was built in 1955. It connects lake Palojärvi with lake Tekojärvi (Tekojärvi = Artifical lake). It became necessary for the water supplies to build this canal when the Pamilo power plant was built by lake Palojärvi.
The water is led through the canal from Tekojärvi to Palojärvi and further to the power plant. The waiterfall in the powerplant is 49 meter.
Through the canal there is today a marked fairway for pleasureboats. This fairway is part of the fairways in lake Koitere. One branch of these fairways leads from Tekojärvi, through Koitajoki river to Möhkö canal.
