Jumalsund canal
Jumalsundin kanava

This is a canal in Strömfors, Ruotsinpyhtää, municipality at the coast of the Gulf of Finland, about 10 kilometers southeast of the town Lovisa. The canal is between the mainland and the Vahterpää island. The sound here was dredged and the canal built by the end of the 1890:ies. The canal was opened in 1898. The canal opened a new and safe fairway for small boats. It is sheltered from storms.
Nowadays the canal is part of a fairway 1,2 meter deep along the coast. And it is narrow as it passes many narrow sounds. A sightseeingboat m/s Alfa have regular tours on this route. Alfa is a genuine wooden boat from Summa and it is 4,2 meters wide. That is the biggest boat that can pass the canal.
The canal is 100 meters long, 6 meters wide, 1,2 meter deep and the free heigth is 4,5 meters.
