Bredsund canal
Bredsundskanalen
Take the roadbridge over the Käringsund canal and continue 5 kilometers on the island, then right towards Storfjärden. After about 1 kilometer you will be at the Bredsund canal.
This canal is often called Dalkarl-stream by the local people.
The canal was dug by russian soldiers during world war 1 and it was only a small ditch. You could come through by poleing in a boat into the 1960:ies and 70:ies. The canal connects Storfjärden in the north to Bredsund in the south. The canal is about 75 meters long and separates Långöjen in the west from Mallanöjen in the east.
During the 1990:ies it was enlarged to a depth of 1,5 meter and a width of 4 meters. A roadbridge crosses the canal and the free height is aboout 2 meters.
